Sixteen Afghan forces were killed when the Taliban fighters attacked Janikheil district in eastern Paktia province, a local official said Tuesday.

The forces killed included 13 army soldiers and three public order police, the official told 1TV on condition of anonymity.
Fifteen more soldiers were injured in the attack, the official said.
A spokesman for Paktia governor confirmed that militants launched their attack on the district last night, triggering a battle with forces that ended in the morning.
He said that 28 insurgents were killed while nine more were wounded in the fighting.
