Afghanistan is the most dangerous country for journalists
Afghanistan has long been renowned as the most dangerous place for journalists. The UN said in the weekend that the situation in the war torn country remains dire. An Afghan media watchdog has given us harrowing figures for the period after the US invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.
Security threats are not the sole obstacle to journalism in Afghanistan. Reporters and news staff in the country are also negatively affected by other factors including lack of rule of law.
Press TV has also lost two of its cameramen back in terrorists attacks in Afghanistan in 2018 and 2011.
As official figures show, terrorists, illegal armed groups and some powerful figures are mainly accountable for the deaths of media personnel.
Journalists also call on the Afghan government to commission a special military unit to protect them during their work time. They say, despite serious challenges, journalists are committed to do their work as a struggle to protect freedom of speech.
