Pashtun Jirga calls for end to Pakistani harassment of Afghan refugees
Participants of the Pashtun ethnic jirga, which was held in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region under the name of "Adalat", on the second day of the jirga demanded attention to the problems of Afghan refugees in Pakistan.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Khushal Kakar, leader of the National Awami Party and one of the participants of the jirga, pointed to the pressure on Afghan refugees in Pakistan and called on the government of Pakistan to stop harassing these refugees.
According to documents collected by the Pashtun Protection Movement and presented at the large jirga, more than 76,500 Pashtuns have been killed in bomb blasts and targeted attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the former tribal areas, leaving 5.7 million people homeless.
Another 6,700 people are still missing, according to the movement's findings, and it is not known whether they are dead or alive.
The jirga was scheduled to begin on Friday, but due to various problems, it officially began yesterday and is scheduled to continue today.
Pashtun jirga in Pakistan, especially Manzoor Pashtun's jirga, has become a powerful symbol of solidarity and will of the people of the region. The rallies are held as a space to express the demands and rights of the Pashtun people and seek to counter the military and political pressures of the Pakistani government.
Thousands of people are said to have joined the rallies despite security threats and repression by the Pakistani government, showing their determination to defend their rights.
A few days ago, the Pakistani government declared the Pashtun Protection Movement an illegal group in the country.
