The head of UNAMA requested the participation of Afghanistan
Roza Otenbayeva, the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations and the head of UNAMA in Afghanistan, asked the United Nations to provide the opportunity for the participation of the Afghan representative in the 29th climate change meeting of this organization.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: UNAMA quoted Ms. Otenbayeva as writing in X: "Given the level of vulnerability, we cannot spend another year without the presence of Afghan voices in this important global discussion about climate change."

UNAMA added that Ms. Otenbayeva made these comments at a "national conference on climate change" in Afghanistan.

The 29th climate change conference of the United Nations known as "COP 29" is scheduled to be held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, in November of this year.

Last year, no representative from Afghanistan was invited to the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference held in the United Arab Emirates.

At that time, the National Environmental Administration of Afghanistan protested against not being invited to this meeting and called it "persecution" and "great oppression".

But at that time, the International Crisis Group published a report saying that the organizers of the UN climate change meeting could not find a way to invite the Islamic Emirate to the meeting due to the lack of official recognition of the Islamic Emirate by the countries of the world.

Afghanistan produces only 0.3% of the world's greenhouse gases and has the least contribution to climate change.

However, according to the United Nations report, this country is among the ten countries that are highly vulnerable to climate change and natural disasters, and has been severely damaged by its consequences.
