According to the Nigerian police officials, the death toll of the fuel tanker explosion in Jigwa state of this country that occurred on Tuesday night has reached 147 people.
Afghan Voice News Agency (AVA) - International Service: Reuters reported that this untimely event took place on Tuesday night, October 15, in Jigawa state in the north of this country.
According to the report, this incident happened when the control of the fuel tanker went out of the driver's hand and it exploded as a result of spilling oil.
50 others were injured in this incident.
The local police said that women and children are among the victims.
Nigerian authorities have described this incident as one of the worst recent events in the country.
Lawan Shiso Adam, the local police spokesperson, stated that the fuel tanker was moving from Kano to Yobe state.
Adam added that the explosion occurred when a number of local residents had gathered to collect the oil removed from the tanker.
According to reports, the majority of the country's roads have been damaged by the recent unrest, which kills dozens of people every year as a result of traffic incidents.
Last month, at least 48 people died as a result of a traffic incident in this country.
