Catastrophic droughts in Afghanistan are a serious threat to regional stability
Jan Eggland, Secretary General of the Norwegian Refugee Council, said that the catastrophic and long-term droughts in Afghanistan and Iran are a serious threat to the stability of the entire region.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Jan Eggland has recently said that these droughts increase the risk of refugees moving between the two countries.

He further wrote: "Long-term ways require help, investment, improved water management and livelihood change".

According to Jan Eggland, thousands of Afghans already displaced are at grave risk unless action is taken now to prevent further deterioration.

Many others may join them on the perilous journey to Europe and elsewhere, the Secretary General of the Norwegian Refugee Council has stressed.

According to the statistics of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, about 9.2 million Afghans have been forcibly displaced in the world.

According to the information of this department, more or less 5.6 million of them are Afghans who are in a similar situation to refugees and 3.25 million Afghans are displaced inside Afghanistan.

War, unemployment and getting a better life are the things that forced Afghans to leave their country.

According to statistics, most Afghan citizens fled to Iran and Pakistan after the Islamic Emirate regained control of Afghanistan in August 2021.

Jan Eggland has said that Iran, hosting more than 4.5 million Afghans, is the second country in the world that accommodates immigrants.

The Norwegian Refugee Council has warned of the consequences of droughts in Afghanistan and Iran, while the National Department of Environmental Protection of the Islamic Emirate has recently called Afghanistan one of the six countries in the world severely affected by climate change.
