Afghanistan reports first COVID-19 death
Afghan Ministry of Public Health on Sunday confirmed the first death from COVID-19 as the total cases soared to 34 across the war-torn country.
"A 40-year patient was lost due to complication caused by COVID-19 infection in northern Balkh province," Wahid Mayar, spokesman of the ministry, said in a statement.
The patient reportedly died a couple of days ago in the province, 305 km north of Kabul.
Earlier on Sunday, Afghanistan's Public Health Minister Ferozuddin Feroz confirmed 10 new COVID-19 cases, including the first two cases in the capital of Kabul.
All the 34 cases, including one patient who died, were imported cases with no locally transmitted infections reported so far, according to officials. Enditem
