Explosion reported in a mosque in Herat city
An explosion rocked the western Herat city earlier this afternoon leaving at least eight people dead or wounded.
AVA- The local officials confirm the incident but the type of the blast and possible casualties have not been ascertained so far.
The Herat police spokesman Abdul Ahad Wali Zada confirmed the incident has taken place inside Nabi Akram Mosque located in the vicinity of the 7th police district of the city.
He said preliminary reports indicate at least one person has been killed and seven others have been wounded in the explosion.
However, a provincial public health official says at least three people were killed and at least nine others were wounded in the blast.
No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.
Herat is among the relatively calm provinces in the West and fewer terroris related incidents have been reported from the province since the fall of the Taliban regime.
However, the anti-government armed militant groups have been attempting to destabilize the province which borders some of the restive provinces in the South and Northwest as well as in the West.
This comes as the anti-government armed militant groups have also been attempting to carry out more attacks in the key provinces and cities during the recent weeks and months.
