1 Jan 2024 - 23:34

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, in response to a recent report by Reporters Without Borders, stated that the media in Afghanistan have unrestricted freedom and support from the government.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_Monitoring, Mujahid revealed these views during a discussion with Afghanistan’s National Radio and Television, adding that media outlets would have no obstacles if they followed the country’s laws and Islamic values.

This comes as Reporters Without Borders classified Afghanistan as one of the most dangerous nations for journalists and media people in their most recent report.

According to Mujahid, authorities have detained members of the media on occasion for their engagement in specific issues or as a kind of punishment, but this is not a systematic incarceration.

Mujahid added that certain detentions that led to trials had legal and criminal ramifications unrelated to media work.

The Islamic Emirate’s spokesperson underlined that the media in Afghanistan operates freely, in accordance with Afghan laws and Islamic norms and principles.
