New Market for Badakhshan’s Handicrafts, Opens in Faizabad
A new market for local products and handicrafts was inaugurated by the Pamir Handicrafts Association in Faizabad City.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_Monitoring, The market has 25 shops and two halls, where traders can sell items such as clothes, rugs, carpets, vests, shawls, felt, and leather, all made by hand in Badakhshan. The market was funded by Japan and built on land bought by 25 traders, five of whom are women.
 
Engineer Azarakhsh Yaftali, the head of the association, said the market aims to promote the trade of Badakhshan’s handicrafts and local products.
 
Moazuddin Ahmadi, the director of information and culture of Badakhshan, said the market also helps to preserve and showcase the unique culture of Badakhshan to the world.
 
The Pamir Handicrafts Association was established in 1398 with the support of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development Office (UNDP), but the construction of its market was delayed for some reasons.
