South America plunged into darkness; 9 people were killed by the storm

Nine people, including a five-year-old child, were killed in Alabama and Georgia following a rare storm in January in South America. According to local authorities, the death toll may rise. Also, this storm has cut off electricity for tens of thousands of customers.

One person in Alabama and one person in Georgia have been added to the death toll. A five-year-old child and a government employee were among the people killed.
 
The reporter of this network added: The Selma area of Alabama, which is a historical area, is among the places that were destroyed by this storm. Houses have been destroyed and electricity has been cut off for tens of thousands of customers.
 
Describing the extent of the damage, this reporter said: You can see houses destroyed and trees broken on every road you pass. Officials have urged residents in storm-hit areas to stay in their homes as conditions are unsafe and roads are dangerous to cross.
 
Meanwhile, a state of emergency is still in place in parts of the state of Alabama. As search and rescue operations begin, officials fear that the death toll may rise.
