President's authorities would be restricted if election headed to runoff: Abdullah

Afghan Voice Agency(AVA) , 16 Jan 2020 - 18:50

The authorities of ruling team would be restricted if the 2019 election is headed to second round, presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah said on Thursday.

Abdullah claimed that Ghani’s team used state resources to draw votes in September 28 election.
He warned that if the election is intentionally headed to runoff because of illegal decision of the election commission, authorities of the ruling team would be restricted and misuse of state resources would be prevented.
He said that the Electoral Complaints Commission should remove fraudulent votes and should not repeat IEC’s mistakes.
Preliminary results from the election showed Ghani leading with 50.64 percent of votes. Abdullah followed him with 39.52 percent.
More than 16,000 complaints were lodged following the announcement of the results. ECC has addressed the complaints and is receiving appeals. So far, it has received 1,600 appeals from three teams.
According to ECC officials, most of the appeals are about decisions on votes recorded outside voting hours.
