Kabulov in Islamabad for talks on Afghanistan
Zamir Kabulov, special representative to the Russian president on Afghanistan, meets Pakistan Foreign Minister Qureshi in Islamabad. Pakistan' foreign ministry says the Russian official appreciated Pakistan's role and efforts for Afghan peace and reconciliation.
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov arrived in Pakistan on a two-day visit on Tuesday.
The visiting diplomat, who is scheduled to discuss the Afghan peace process with Pakistani officials, met senior officials at the Foreign Office and the Russian embassy.
Kabulov is due to hold talks with Pakistan’s top civil and military leadership on regional peace and stability, including the current situation in Afghanistan.
The Russian envoy is to meet Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua on ongoing efforts by both countries to find out a political solution to the conflict.
He will be briefed on the recently-held peace talks between the Taliban and US special representative Zalmay Khalilzad in Qatar.
Taliban’s political envoys attended a conference in Moscow in November and met representatives of the sponsored High Peace Council and Kabul’s envoy to Russia.
