HIA not to have an independent candidate in presidential elections: Hekmatyar
The leader of Hezb-e-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) Gulbuddin Hekmatyar has said the party will not have an independent candidate in the upcoming presidential elections.
AVA- Speaking during a press conference in Kabul, Hekmatyar said Hezb-e-Islami will nominate a candidate in close coordination with the other political parties.
Hekmatyar further added that Hezb-e-Islami and some other political parties would establish a joint council to decide regarding the nomination of a single candidate for the elections.
The Independent Election Commission (IEC) officials announced last month that the presidential elections are scheduled for 20th of April next year.
In other parts of his speech, Hekmatyar alleged that massive that the October 20 parliamentary elections have been marred by fraud and called for the separation of fraudulent votes from the clean votes cast during the elections, specifically demanding the separation of votes which have been cast without biometric verification.
He went on to claim that Hezb-e-Islami has won one third of all the votes cast during the October 20 parliamentary elections.
