Syrian army raises alert as Idlib battle approaches: monitor
The Syrian government forces have raised the level of alert, as part of the preparations for the anticipated military campaign on the Idlib province, the last major rebel stronghold in Syria, a monitor group reported on Wednesday.
AVA- Citing what it called "trustworthy sources," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the army raised the level of alert at it has gathered all officers of the operation of Idlib.
It said the reinforcements have been brought to the frontline areas in the countryside of Idlib, the northwestern province of Latakia and Hama province in central Syria.
All three provinces share a triangle of areas that are under the rebels' control.
The Russia- and Iran-backed Syrian army is preparing a wide-scale offensive against the rebels of the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front, or the Levant Liberation Committee (LLC), in Idlib.
The presidents of Iran, Russia, and Turkey are set to hold a summit in Iran's capital Tehran on Friday to discuss the situation in Idlib, where Turkey holds considerable sway over an array of rebel groups.
