IECC says decision on disqualified candidates final

The Independent Electoral Complaint Commission (IECC) has said no entity has the authority to change the decision of election body and stressed over its earlier decision regarding the disqualification of some election candidate.


Earlier, the IECC had removed the names of 35 candidates from the list of candidates as they could not meet the criteria to contest election.

Many of the disqualified candidates took to the street and launched protest against the IECC decision and demanded its reconsideration.

Ali Raza Rohani, the IECC spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Everyone should know that law is a standard and the decision of IECC regarding these issues was final and won’t be reconsidered.”

The disqualified candidates had been provided two-day time to register their complaint against the decision of IECC and all the decisions in this regard had been finalized in provincial and central special commissions of IECC.

He made it clear the Independent Election Commission (IEC) has no authority to seek documents of the IECC because the source of scrutiny and identification was IECC not IEC.

Supporters of six disqualified Wolesi Jirga candidates on Monday closed the entrance o the Independent Election Commission (IEC) in Kabul.

About one hundred supporters of the barred election contenders rallied in the high-security capital against the IEC decision. They wanted the panel to reverse the decision.

The rallied was taken out by backers of MullahTarakhel Mohammadi, Qais Hassan, Ziaul Haq Amarkhel, Sher Ali Ahmadzai, Zardad Faryadi and Akbar Stanikzai.

The protestors complained the Independent Electoral Complaint Commission (IECC) had not informed the candidates before their names were struck off the final list.

The angry demonstrators the candidates should have been informed by the IECC, not by the media, and should be given the chance to explain their positions.
