Afghan government to invest $200 million to boost Kajaki Dam capacity
The Afghan government will invest two hundred million US Dollars on Kajaki Dam in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan to boost the hydropower production and reservoir capacity of the dam.
AVA-The Minister of Water and Energy Ali Ahmad Osman informed regarding the plan as he was speaking during a press conference in Helmand on Monday.
The governors of Helmand and Nimroz as well as provincial council members were also present during the conference.
Mr. Osmani said the government of national unity and President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has stepped up efforts for the better management of the waters of country.
He said the execution of certain projects will resolve the major issues pertaining the management of the waters and the new $200 project in Kajaki Dam will help increase the reservoir and production capacities of the dam.
Osmani further added that plans are on hand regarding Mosa Qala, Nawzad and Nahr-e-Saraj water dams.
According to Osmani, the formalities of Mosa Qala dam have been completed while Nawzad and Nahr-e-Saraj dams are under process in procurement commission.
In the meantime, Mr. Osmani said the government expects that the local residents will support the government for the implementation of the projects, specifically with the arrangement of security.
