Terror groups taking advantage of Afghan refugees, Pak army chief says
Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa has said that the terrorist groups’ residuals are attempting to take advantage from the presence of around 2.7 million Afghan refugees based in Pakistan.
AVA- He made the remarks during a meeting of the Chiefs of Staff of the Military Forces of a number of in Kabul on Tuesday.
“COAS reiterated that path to regional peace and stability passes through Afghanistan. COAS said that regions develop as whole, not individual countries,” the Pakistani military said in a statement.
The statement further added that Gen. Bajwa said that Pakistan has eliminated all terrorist sanctuaries from its soil, however, residual signatures of terrorists who take advantage of presence of 2.7 million Afghan refugees and absence of effective border security coordination, are also being traced and targeted through ongoing operation Radd ul Fasaad.
“He also assured that Pakistani territory is not allowed to be used against any other country and Pakistan expects the same in reciprocity. He said that collaborative approach and persistence is the answer to all challenges, for which Pakistan is ready to play its part,” the statement said.
This comes as the Afghan officials have long been expressing concerns regarding the presence of the leadership councils of the Taliban and Haqqani network in Pakistan and often blame the Haqqani leaders for planning and coordinating deadly attacks from their sanctuaries in Pakistan.
