Ahmadzai sacked as head of Afghan electoral commission
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani sacked Najibullah Ahmadzai as the head of Independent Election Commission on Wednesday.

AVA- In a decree, the president cited IEC members’ demands for dismissal of their boss.

He called for new list of candidates for filling the position.

Ahmadzai was appointed by the president as head of IEC nearly a year ago amid the government’s efforts to reform the election system after a presidential vote in 2014 that was marred by accusations of mass fraud.

His dismissal comes less than eight months before parliamentary election that has already been delayed for two years.

Reports suggest that five members of the seven-member IEC wrote to Ghani this week accusing Ahmadzai of incompetence.
